May is one of those months like December in which I cannot seem to manage to get one single thing accomplished.
Okay, that’s not true.
Obviously in December I get things done, only they are seasonally appropriate things, like wrapping presents, baking twelve different kinds of Christmas cookies, and Christmas shopping with all the important people in my life* who thought I was crazy for finishing my shopping back in October.
*You understand I’m helping them do their shopping, not the other way around, right?
Then the end of the month arrives and I realize all my grown-up goals for the month fizzled into a list titled: Just try to get one of these things done, okay?!
May is a lot like that, lacking the massive gift giving holiday planted right at the end. Lance’s birthday is in May. Memorial Day is in May. And, this May, we went away for a weekend, but those don’t seem to add up to I-haven’t-blogged-in-two-weeks-and-there’s-a-perfectly-exceptable-answer-as-to-why reasons.
So, I guess what I’m saying is, sorry.
Remember when I told you about the donuts in New York?
I have more donuts to share.
They came about by a spur of the moment, early departure for our weekend away in Vermont. Having scored our dog sitter for an unexpected extra night, we decided to get a head start on the 6.5-hour drive to Vermont at 9 pm.
It was so last minute; we didn’t even have a hotel picked out until we were an hour into our drive. Lance was aiming for Hartford, CT and it wasn’t until I crashed onto the beautifully crisp, clean white sheets of our hotel bed that he told me my breakfast options: two different local donut joints.
The thought of sugary doughy goodness rejuvenated me temporarily. One look at my choices and I knew Donut Crazy was where we needed to go.
I mean, just look…
I suffer from indecision at any and every bakery we visit. The likelihood of my ordering only one thing is something you should never bet on.
Just look at those donuts. How can a person possibly choose just one? It simply isn’t fair to the other donuts.
And here’s the kicker. They had glazed donut sandwiches, too.
I had heard of this mythical creature, but never saw the glorious beast in living color until this visit.
Look, it doesn’t matter how strange the concept is…I’m trying it at least once. Until Donut Crazy, I had only seen donut sandwiches on shows like Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. And now here was one staring me down: glazed donut topped with bacon, egg, and cheese with another glazed donut pressed down on top. This kind of food absurdity is right up my alley. One bite in and I knew we’d made the right choice.
It was like having a breakfast sandwich on the best roll of your life. It’s like McDonald’s McGriddle concept, a breakfast sandwich on pancakes? Ummm, can we say perfection? Except here it’s all freshly made, so I’m going to have to categorize it as healthy.
Since we were already eating so healthy what with our choice to eat fresh and all, we added on a box of four of their ‘crazies’, aka specialty donuts.
I have no regrets.
