It’s been far too long since my last bakery post. I’m not sure I can remember that far back. Clearly, something must be done.
This post almost wouldn’t have been if it weren’t for a rather large sign on the highway noting Cake Stand’s existence. Our discovery went something like this:
Me: Oh, Lance! Look, a bakery! Cake Stand Bakery. They’re probably really great, they have a billboard! We should go!
Lance: Okay, look ’em up.
Me: Really?
Rather than looking them up on my phone, I turn around in my seat, noting their marketing is also on the reverse side of the billboard.
Me: Turn left!
It was this moment I decided to Google them. And about .34789 seconds later I realized the left had been for the oncoming traffic, not for those of us turned around in our seats trying to grasp as much information as possible as we sped by.
Yet, we turned ourselves around and managed to find our way.
I don’t know what it is, something in the air, sugar and chocolate and butter all gathered together under one roof, but when I enter a bakery, suddenly all is right in the world.
Seeing Julia Child’s quote, “A party without cake is just a meeting,” I knew we were in good hands. It is my second favorite quote of hers. “People who love to eat are always the best people,” is a sentiment I have found true, and therefore it holds first place.
I have yet to do this, because of several reasons including my pride, my wallet, and my thighs, but one day when I enter a new bakery I’m going to walk up to the counter and say, “I’ll have one of everything!”
That day is guaranteed to be a great day.
I don’t know how other people enter bakeries, but as soon as I see the goodies, I gasp with delight and then become acquainted with it all by peering into the case, carefully making sure not to miss a single thing available.
However, at the Cake Stand, they have display cakes which catch the eye as quickly as their delicious treats.
I feel like it would be committing a crime to eat a piece of cake from these flawless masterpieces.
We tried a cookie dough brownie, one of their jumbo cupcakes, and a pbj bar.
And they were all so beautiful, I decided you need to see each one on their own:
Note the M&M’s in the brownie base. This brownie was rich, a cookie and chocolate lover’s dream. On my own, I could never finish it in one sitting, which meant the deliciousness got to be spread out over the course of several days…or hours.
Since Hubby has an aversion to peanut butter, this was all for me. I usually avoid peanut butter, knowing his dislike, but this bar looked too good to pass up.
And it was. I’ve made and ordered a few bars like this in my time. I find the jelly tends to thin out and get lost in surrounding cookie. The jelly hidden inside of this bar was flavorful and abundant. A nice surprise, for sure.
I’ve saved the jumbo cupcake for last. Cupcakes have gotten played out in some establishments to a point where they are all show and no flavor. It was with hesitation and hopeful trust in the name of the bakery that we ordered a cupcake.
I dare to say this was the best cupcake I’ve ever had.
I know, this is a bold statement. Quite bold because there are many cupcake places within a short drive in any direction from my home, however, Cake Stand managed to do a combination of things none of the other cupcake places have done.
This cupcake is large. The cake is not dried out, nor is the flavor dull. There’s a cookie dough surprise inside the cake and on top. And, what really set this cake over the top for me, the icing was light and creamy, and without question, the best cupcake icing I’ve ever enjoyed.
