Coffeehouse Adventures has been revived from the brink of death. There was a faint pulse, it was barely hanging on*, and then *bam* CPR was performed, caffeine was placed in an IV and here it is today.
*Like this blog, amiright?
I found Wake Coffee because we weren’t hungry.
It seems we’ve been substituting the search for coffeehouses for the search for delicious breakfast locations—and I’m sorry, but not too sorry because breakfast is still: 1.) my favorite meal of the day, 2.) full of such variety and brilliance it deserves to be chased after, and 3.) a meal where coffee is served.
Wake is too far a drive to be my weekday coffeehouse but the perfect distance for a weekend spot*—and we found it because of jam.
*It’s also in PA, but we won’t hold it against them.
That’s right, jam.
While in Hawaii last year, I bought ube* flavoring from a supermarket thinking about Future Jessica and how she’d most likely want to bake something with ube flavor from one of the two, yes two,Hawaiian cookbooks she purchased while in Hawaii.
*Ube is purple yam and is incredibly popular in Hawaii.
Only to discover that every recipe, while they might call for ube flavoring also call for ube jam.
I searched and searched and found ube jam at World Market*.
*I also found tons of other amazing things there. I used the words I’m so overwhelmed about a dozen times while shopping in their food section.
And naturally, we needed to make this trip about more than just my need for jam. So, we started with a stop at Wake Coffee.
Located in a renovated garage—so cute—Wake coffee was hopping when we got there. Orders are taken on a touch screen* and there is plenty of space inside and outside to sit. We decided to sit at the counter so we could watch the coffee making action.
*I’m torn between loving this and feeling like it’s too impersonal. I love it because I get to spend time being indecisive and not feeling bad, but there is a small part of me that wants to interact with a person…yet at the end of the day, after ordering three pastries without blinking, I think I loved it.
We shared a breakfast sandwich (on a croissant, yum), delicious pastries (the blueberry tart was my favorite), and ordered seasonal coffees: Iced Smoked Maple Latte for Hubby and Harvest Latte for me.
The most adorable latte art, ever
On our next visit, I’ll be buying a pound of their coffee to try at home. Until then, hopefully more Coffeehouse Adventures are out there on the horizon, waiting patiently as Wake Coffee did for me.
