I’m only 16 years* late to reading this one. But, to be fair, I was still in elementary school then, so I feel that by reading this book now I’m doing my part to make it relevant again—although I’m not sure I’ll accomplish this.
*11 years if you are someone who doesn’t recognize a book’s existence until it is made into a movie.
A classmate recommended I read Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding based on certain elements of one of my projects.
Here is how I could relate to this book:
- I keep a ‘diary’ where I record the basics of my day.
- Bridget’s New Year’s Resolutions at the start of the book were eerily similar to my own
…and that was it.
The book is humorous, but it wasn’t gripping. It didn’t pull me in and make me care about Bridget or her plight in life—however superficial it might’ve been.
I found more connection with many of the minor characters, one of which said my favorite quote: “When someone loves you it’s like having a blanket all round your heart.”
