For a while, I’ve seen Little Free Libraries* and wanted so badly to participate in one. More often I see them in passing. As in, while in the car, passing them by at 30 mph. I always make a mental note, thinking to myself Next time I’m here, I’m SO going to leave a book and maybe even take one, and then, I never do.
*LFL as they’re known throughout the Bookstagram community
So, when my mom told me there was a LFL on her walk route, I knew I would be making a trip for the sole purpose of seeing it.
If, at this point, you’re thinking, What on earth is a Little Free Library and what is the big deal?, I’ll tell you.
Little Free Libraries are, as their website states, the world’s largest book-sharing movement. It’s a place where you can take a book and/or share a book. It’s a book lover taking their commitment to reading to another level by buying* a little library** and installing it on their property in a place where anyone can access it.
*Funds of which support LFL’s nonprofit mission which is based completely around reading and creating community.
**Think: Birdhouse for books
I think they are the cutest thing, ever.
I didn’t find anything I wanted to read* but I left the book Hip-Hop and Other Things that I’m hoping some teenager found and is reading right now.
*Plus, let’s be honest, my TBR** pile is at least three-feet tall.
**TBR = To Be Read
The fun part about owning a LFL is that you receive a charter sign and have the option of putting your LFL on the LFL map on their app—which I’m thinking I’m going to have to download soon.
