It’s been a hot minute since I blogged.
And by hot minute, I mean two months.
TWO MONTHS?!
I can’t believe it either.
As much as I love blogging, there are two things getting me down. And by getting me down, I mean keeping me from blogging.
1. The lack of really going new places* due to, everyone’s favorite, COVID**
*Alright, full disclosure, I’ve been places. Just not many.
**Can you believe COVID-19 is going to be 1-year-old soon? Those viruses just grow up so fast.
2. School. I mentioned a few months ago I was thinking about going back to school for my master’s. The program I’m considering has you take two classes before applying for the program. Which is pretty awesome because, for me at least, it helped me know how I really feel about doing this. That being said, this second class really challenged me as a writer and kept me on my toes.
So, for my hopeful return to at least once a week posting, I’m going to share with you four holiday related moments you’ve missed over the past two months.
1. Halloween
Jon loves Halloween. And since COVID canceled his usual Halloween routine (which consists of a Harvest Fun Festival at church and then giving out candy to trick or treaters at my house), we decided to have our own family Halloween Festival. We dressed up. Played games. Ate food. Watched Halloween movies.
It was pretty much the best Halloween ever.
2. Christmas Trees
I put my Christmas trees up*, as I always do, the day after Halloween.
*Yes, plural.
And this happened:
I don’t know who thought pre-lit trees were an amazing idea, but when this happens suddenly you decide to swear off pre-lit trees for the rest of your life. I contacted the manufacturer who mailed me a new strand of lights. And quickly I learned the complete anatomy of my pre-lit Christmas tree. Each light is clipped to a different branch in a seemingly haphazard order—there’s literally no rhyme or reason to where the light gets clipped! So much so I couldn’t even get a guide from the manufacturer on how to restring the lights. I spent hours taking the broken set off and reclipping the new set.
Non pre-lit trees forever!
3. Thanksgiving
By now, you know of my Thanksgiving dessert breakfast. Though there were less people than usual at breakfast this year, my family did still join together and dessert was still eaten.

4. Great British Bake Off*
*You might be thinking, “Does this really get filed under ‘holiday’?” And I would emphatically say, YES.
Recently, my brother, Joel, and SIL, Mal, introduced me to GBBO. I’d heard of it, but after my first episode, I was hooked. We watched the most recent season together, with me and Mal baking something different for each episode. She has recently delved into the world of baking—and has turned out some amazing cakes! I wanted to challenge myself by attempting what GBBO calls the “Technical Challenge”. It is the second segment of the show where the bakers are given the bare bones of a recipe (with some directions and other information withheld) and told to make the item. It is intense. And every time it is something I really, really want to try*.
*Except that one time they did cinnamon buns—because check me at Thanksgiving breakfast—I know how to do a cinnamon bun!
And that’s…it?
The last two months, regardless of COVID, seem to have been packed with so much goodness—I’d never cover it in one post.
What have been some highlights for you these past two months?
