Jersey is known for its diners.
That being said, normally, I don’t seek out diners in other states.
What I do seek out, all the time, here, there, and everywhere, are top rated, breakfast* options.
*I have a whole breakfast post up my sleeve. Hang on.
Our first meal indoors since March was at the end of August when Metro Diner came up in a breakfast search. As soon as I saw that they offered southern favorites like biscuits & gravy and chicken & waffles, I knew we had to go.
Just a short drive into Pennsylvania, and all of a sudden, the rules were different.
Who would’ve known that in 2020 it would feel strange to sit in a restaurant?
There was, as expected, a short wait to get in, but soon we were seated at a table well socially distanced from those around us.
I may have mentioned this before, but I am a 100% sweet breakfast person. Hubby, on the other hand, is the savory one. I know it is going to be a good breakfast spot if I am in a tough place deciding between a sweet breakfast choice and a savory one.
Because, dear friends, how does one pass up on cinnamon roll pancakes—topped with cream cheese icing, candied pecans, and cinnamon butter?
But, also, how does one pass up on biscuits & sausage gravy?
The answer, is—one doesn’t.
Lance and I live a life of ‘ands’. Not ‘ors’.
So, naturally, I ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes, he ordered the chicken & waffles, and, to share, a side order of biscuits and gravy.
And we had no regrets.
The biscuits and gravy were as much perfection as any I have eaten in the south. We devoured them with such speed, I forgot to take a picture.
Hubby’s chicken and waffles were, according to him, possibly the best he has ever eaten. What really makes them is the strawberry butter and sweet and spicy sauce served on the side.
My cinnamon roll pancakes were just about as deliciously decadent as you could imagine. The over indulgent part of me wanted a lake of the cream cheese icing spread over the top, but the prudent part of me, while eating, told the other part of me calm down. It was plenty.
I am now faced with a problem.
To return for breakfast—lunch—or dinner? My mind says I need to try their shrimp & grits and fried chicken plate, but my heart says, “Go back for breakfast again.”
I’m not certain which will win.
