Today is a day to celebrate.
In fact, I believe each and every day we see through to the end is a day worth celebrating.
Is life ideal right now? Certainly not, but if you are reading this you have something worth at least the smallest bit of positivity you can summon: you are still here.
It is not easy to be an optimist. And I promise you, friends, an optimist I am not.
But I know someone who is. Through and through.
I know someone who pushes beyond negativity. Someone who doesn’t get hung up on what he cannot do, but finds joy in what he can accomplish. Someone who smiles in spite of tears. Someone who makes me want to push my sarcastic Jersey habits aside and be just like him.
Today is World Down Syndrome Day.
Today I celebrate the person who has arguably made the greatest contribution to my life. The person who pushes me to love instead of hate. The person who binds my family together. The person who forgives ignorance daily and teaches me the meaning of mercy again and again.
If you are reading this, for World Down Syndrome Day, I challenge you to spread love. To silence any negativity and only speak (write or share) things which uplift others. Put it through the Philippians 4:8 filter: Is it true? Is it noble? Is it right? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it admirable? Is it excellent or praiseworthy? If the answer is not yes to all those questions, cast it away.
Daily tea time, reading Harry Potter together
Not only will you make someone else’s day, I suspect you will feel pretty incredible by the day’s end, too.
