Welcome to the Thanksgiving edition of Four for Friday.
Thanksgiving is only three weeks passed from us, but the time between feels like the distance from here to the moon. Christmas is a mere five days away, yet a week from now all will wonder how it could come and go with such velocity.
One of my favorite quotes from Scrooge* starring Alastair Sim, and coincidentally my favorite version of A Christmas Carol, though not actually in Dickens’ original text, sums up the way I try to live the holidays: “We Spirits of Christmas do not live only one day of our year. We live the whole three-hundred and sixty-five. So is it true of the Child born in Bethlehem. He does not live in men’s hearts one day of the year, but in all days of the year.”
*Original title
May we be thankful in January and charitable in September. May we spread cheer during the dark winter days and gracious in the school-free summer months.
In an effort for Thanksgiving to remain in my heart 365 days of the year, and also a desire to share with you the joy of my Thanksgiving morning three weeks after the fact, I’m going to highlight my top four photos of Thanksgiving.
1. I snapped this picture of Jon and Stitch after briefly instructing Jon on how to fry sausage on the stove top.
Jon’s eagerness to try new things, to persevere no matter how difficult something may seem, constantly challenges me to do the same.
2. What started as me throwing a few dessert breakfast items together the night before Thanksgiving* has turned into an event. Thanksgiving prebake (held on Thanksgiving Eve) is a day when some of my favorite people come over and help me to bake an arrangement of desserts, some classics and some new finds, for Thanksgiving breakfast.
*From here on out to be known as ‘Thanksgiving Eve’
I don’t know how I could possibly get it all done without them.
3. Pajamas at Thanksgiving breakfast are optional, but they give it that cozy flair a holiday breakfast should have.
And this year, Lance bought Stitch pajamas.
It was one of those things I didn’t know I needed until I had it. You understand, right?
4. Sharing this spread with family…
That’s what my Thanksgiving morning is all about.
