Even though we’re now well into fall*, I’m still dreaming about summer food. In other words: seafood.
*Though you wouldn’t know it based on our weather. Also, who do I complain to about the ice cream man not coming to my neighborhood all summer, but then deciding to show up multiple times in October?!
There are certainly rich seafood dishes that work well in fall and winter*, but I’m thinking about those seafood dishes which are so delightful to enjoy with the sun in your face and an ocean breeze making your hair fly around so much you wished you’d worn a hat even though you aren’t a hat person.
*I’m looking at you, Gumbo.
Saltie Girl, a seafood bar in Boston made all my summer seafood dreams come true when we visited in September. We went for brunch, a meal where, ordinarily, I don’t order seafood—and ate nothing but it.
I wanted to try their sweet bun (see below) but had to settle for creeping on one that was being served to another table. There was a caramel sauce served alongside that looked like nothing but YUM when it was drizzled on top.
Instead, we shared a warm spicy king crab roll and a spicy tuna hand roll.
And I had to once again exhibit restraint and not order another round of rolls for the table, because they were that good.

Not only was the seafood fresh and simply perfection all by itself, but the restaurant is bright and inviting. There’s a lot of attention given to keeping the mermaid vibe of greens and pinks alive from the entrance to the tables and their presentation to the bar.
And speaking of the bar, I had a summery cocktail to go along with my summer longing. My cocktail was the Pineapple. Simple, sweet, delicious.
I feel as though somewhere deep during the darkness of winter I might need to return to Saltie Girl so I can eat all the seafood and imagine I am basking in the warm summer sunlight instead of shivering beneath a bleak winter sky.
Can you tell I’m not looking forward to winter?
