For several years now, I’ve been a New Year resolution maker. My resolutions fall into the typical categories of New Year resolutions: health, hobbies, happiness*.
*All which ultimately boil down to one word: Habits**.
**I recently read the book: Atomic Habits by James Clear. If you’re looking for tips on how to organize your life so that you can create the lifestyle you want—this was a great read.
The question my initial statement begs, however, is: have I been a New Year resolution keeper?
The answer is…
I’m trying.
Keeping photos of happy memories organized is one of my resolutions
Every year, I manage to fully complete at least one or two of my resolutions*, but if they weren’t all things I wanted to accomplish, I wouldn’t have made them all my resolutions, right? I went a little over the top this year with my resolutions. For 2024, I created general resolutions and then a list of writing goals. Both lists included eight items.
*In the past, I’ve made 4-5 resolutions.
Part of trying, I’ve decided, is reevaluating these resolutions midyear. Reevaluation provides a chance to think things over. What’s working? What isn’t? What isn’t a priority anymore? What is an even bigger priority now? And yup, you guessed it, yesterday was the day for reevaluation.
Creating the best life for my pups will always be part of my resolutions
I can’t help marveling whenever I think about all that takes place over a short span of time. It has been six months since New Year’s Day but I am different. My life is different than it was six months ago. Sure, in many ways it’s the same, but in so many ways, so many intricate and massive ways, it has changed*.
*A massive one being that gaping hole that is my kitchen right now.
In a few months, living without these plastic walls will be strange
While I won’t share with you all my goals, I will share this: I’ve edited them, shaping them to match where I am right now. What I’ve found is, the heart of them hasn’t changed.
So, why do I write all this? Especially when Writing Resolution #4 was Blog one time per week and I, obviously, have not kept up with it?
I don’t know. Maybe to keep myself accountable? Maybe to remind myself I’m human? Or maybe because you’ve got goals, too, and it’s my hope that if you’re reading this, you’ll know that it’s hard, but worth it to follow through on them.
Happy midyear. Here’s a picture of me doing something that was kind of, but not really, one of my resolutions, and therefore, a major stretch for me:
Thankful for sweet friends who capture sweet moments.
