- House Hunting
I wish I could tell you that not having a house has made me have this fabulous insight that I don’t need a house—but it’s not true. And I wish I could tell you that the journey to finding a house is magical. That it’s this open-ended time frame of freedom—but that’s not true either.
Though I’ve gotten past the point of thinking about it 24/7, it is still an ever-present weight on my mind.
Case and point: Earlier this week, I had a dream that we bought our new home. It was in Jackson, where we’d happened to look at a house which we loved a few weeks ago*. That house, this dream world house certainly wasn’t. In my dream, I walked through the house mentally noting everything wrong with it. The kitchen wasn’t up to my standards. There were three toilets in the living room. In the backyard, there were two rectangular pools side by side—taking up the entirety of the yard. When I started bemoaning all this to Lance, he told me the seller had dropped the price. We were getting all this for a steal!
*Spoiler Alert: It was at least $100,000 overpriced and still managed to have its status changed to Pending within four days of the open house.
So, I guess what I’m telling you is that yes, we are still house hunting and no, it isn’t the picnic* it was 14 years ago.

2. Exercise
We’re slowly finding our groove here at my parents’ house and one thing which has quickly become part of this is our family gym. During COVID, my brother, Joel, worked tirelessly turning my dad’s shop* into a home gym.
*Shop = gigantic metal barn large enough to store a fleet of at least nine work trucks but in recent years has only stored rusting equipment.
Even though before moving we were only a five-minute drive away, we’ve been frequenting ‘The Shop’ much more…we even have our own little shop dog.
3. GBB
It’s that time of year again. Time for the baking and all-things-British-loving nerds to come out the woodwork and geek out over The Great British Bake Off. Like last year, my SIL, Mallory, and I have been baking something special for each episode. While cheering for our favorite contestants, we nibble on the desserts—usually themed around the episode or previous Bake Off contestants’ recipes. It’s been the highlight of my week.

4. Farmer’s Markets
In the summer, Jon and I started visiting different farm stands and farmer’s markets. Despite living in the Garden State, I’ve never had my spot that I regularly go to—something I’d like to change, but have difficulty with*. We’ve been discovering the different spots—large and small—nearby and are carrying on with this into the fall and I love it.
*Dangling preposition, yikes! Also, why? Because: 1. I usually go to the market with something in mind and little pop-up stands don’t tend to have variety. 2. Because I love variety.
