I started this Four for Friday last week and was like, No one cares about this nonsense. But, after hearing things like, “Now that you’ve finally started blogging again…” from my SIL, I’m like, Maybe I should just let loose and give them my boredom.
So here it is.
Today is an Around the House Four for Friday. It is boring. It is dusty. It is dirty.
Most importantly, it is reality.
1. Roof
We replaced our roof a few months ago. It was a process I was equally awed and disturbed by: awed, because of the speed and skill of the men who worked on the roof, and disturbed, because of the price tag. For something I, for the most part, never see, it was a pretty, pretty penny.
2. Music Room
In home ownership, as I’m sure any home owner will tell you, when one thing needs replacing, you can bet that there is another thing directly related also in need. This was the case of our music room floor. The floor had water damage. The water damage was from our faulty roof. Therefore, we needed to replace the roof to replace the floor.
Follow?
Me either.
After months of walking around parts of the floor which sunk down two inches when they were stepped on, we were finally able to get the floor replaced.
Before
This sight was slightly disturbing, but, in truth, I kind of expected it to be even worse.
After
3. Demolish
Remember that reality about one thing needing to be replaced because of another? This involves things around the house, too. My piano, which I mentioned in this post, needed to leave the music room so that the floor could be replaced. I didn’t want to move it out and back in again, because the hope* is that we will soon move.
*High hope, but still a hope.
My piano was old. It couldn’t tune properly. There were broken strings and a hammer that would disconnect.
It also held a world of memories. So, since no one wanted a discolored, outdated, flawed piano, my brother, Justin, decided to take it apart.
Though I’ve known of the inner workings of my piano, it fascinates me to see them in such a new way.
4. New
I’ve been fortunate to always have had a real piano in my life. So many little fingers which I have taught began with only a keyboard and a love of music. I was lucky to have all three.
Knowing what I would be missing without this piece of me, I asked Hubby for a top-of-the-line digital piano as a placeholder until we find ourselves in our next home. The kind that looks, feels, and breathes like a real piano.
It takes a few minutes with her to realize she isn’t the real thing. I’m, yet again, blessed to have such a beautiful instrument brought into my life.
