It is odd how, even in a continuing coronavirus world, life can be so busy.
I’m having blog issues. It’s a tiny little thing which I don’t have time or the desire to figure out. You’ll remember that I’m only here for the writing. So, when something behind the scenes takes a lot of time for me to fix, I go through an embarrassing range of emotions including a momentary stubborn fit of, ‘I just won’t blog right now then!’*.
*Like I’m really punishing anyone but myself.
So, all that to say, I’ve had so much to share, but so little time to do it in.
- Gigantic Sprouts
Clearly, these sprouts deserve a bit of our attention. They are ginormous!
I’ve been trying to force more fruits and veggies into my diet. It’s an ongoing battle, especially since things like chocolate, croissants, and cookies, in the moment, are so much more appealing.
2. Quilting
My dear, sweet, incredibly talented friend, Anita, made me this quilt hanging. She found the center piece for this quilt and said it reminded her of me—and she was so right! This scene and all the work she added to it, are SO me. I wish you could see the intricate stitching and just how detailed this beauty is!
For forever I have been fascinated by those who quilt, knit, crochet, and sew. Some are skills I have attempted, and could manage to complete if my life was on the line, but cannot do anywhere near as expertly. I’m so honored to hang her work in my home and to have a friend like her!
3. Hamilton
I’ll admit, like many I’ve talked to, I was a little leery about hopping on the Hamilton bandwagon. When something is overhyped, I get that way*. But, thankfully, Hamilton was really worth all the hype.
*See: The Greatest Showman, a movie that no matter how much the world loved it, I just could not find the appeal.
Before Disney+ released Hamilton, I had started listening to the audiobook of the book which inspired the play. It is a brick of a book and I knew there was no way I was going to actually sit down and read it—yet I felt a strong pull towards educating myself about the life of a man so foundational to our country’s history.
I was maybe a third of the way through when the play became available for the world to see, taking away any bragging rights of theater goers saying, “I saw it with the original cast”.
It is magical. And I have purposefully chosen that word: magical. I don’t know how else to describe a musical that literally seeps into your mind and stays there, even when you haven’t listened to the songs for days. Both Hubby and I have experienced the songs keeping us awake at night, playing in our minds.
Straight up magic.
If you are also a fan of the play, I highly recommend: Hamilton: The Revolution.
4. Fall
I often dream of moving to a place where the seasons do not change with such extremities as in New Jersey.
But then I think about how beautifully our seasons frame the year, and can’t imagine life without them, even the ones I hate.
I am a fall girl through and through. If I had to pick a second favorite season, it would be that sweet spot right as spring is ending and summer is beginning. So, sprummer.
Pumpkin pancakes
What I love about living in a place with four very different seasons is that just when you think you can’t bear another a) sweltering hot b) freezing cold c) pollen strong d) wet leaves filled day, the next season arrives in full blast.
Translation: I was ready for summer to be over at the start of August and haven’t stopped smiling since shorts stopped being part of my daily wardrobe.
