My MIL loved to claim the entire month she was born in as her ‘Birthday month’. I’m starting to think I might need to do the same to the month of September.
It helps a lot that I love September—like, absolutely love it. My favorite colors are starting to spring up everywhere, the scent of cinnamon is in the air, and we have finally started to have cooler days which means fall is right around the corner*. Translation: I finally want to do fun things outside and I’m absolutely willing to use this, and my birthday falling right around a holiday, as an excuse to start the birthday celebrations early.
*Next Tuesday, to be exact. I CAN’T WAIT.
I spent Labor Day visiting a few wineries with Hubby and our friend, Drew.
The first winery, William Heritage, we visited several years ago for Drew’s birthday. I’m pretty sure it was my first winery experience, so it has a special little spot in my heart.
Not to mention their wines are excellent and the winery itself has a great atmosphere.
I had a sparkling wine flight.
Even in a socially distant world, wineries are rocking it. We had to make a reservation for outdoor seating and we had a time limit of 1hr 45 min, which was plenty of time to relax while enjoying the open beauty of the vineyard.
From there, we headed to a teeny little town I lived in during my undergrad days for lunch and a little bit of antique shopping.
There is a story in these postcards. Perhaps it will find itself into a blog post. I could have spent the entire afternoon reading them.
Despite a fun distillery in the neighborhood being closed, along with another winery we wanted to make a return visit to, we managed to find another winery in somewhat of the same area* which was open.
*Because of where I grew up, aka farm country, something 20 minutes away is “in the same area” to me.
‘The Enoteca’ at Auburn Road Vineyards is simply breathtaking. This is their European style vineyard wine-bar. We sat under the pergola which was covered in fantastically grown vines. Had we realized they served pizzas*, we would have skipped lunch and headed straight for Auburn Road. Instead we sipped wine and tried their sorbet.
*We are definitely going back.
Drew insists that I always blog about things we do together without ever posting a picture of him.
So here it is…
But I must state that in that very moment, he got a phone call from an old coworker, who I have met and attended events with, and proceeded to say, “I’m at a winery with Lance”.
Intentional or accidental? What do you think?
All in all, it was a lovely day, and I’m looking forward to more days like it as fall approaches. Days of pumpkin everything, layered clothing, and crunchy leaves under my feet.
Oh, and more winery visits, too.
