1. Writers Workshop
Often, meaning on every possible occasion, I would eye up the Gotham Writers Workshop pamphlets sitting on newspaper bins in NYC, promising myself I would look them up. Maybe I would sign up for one of their weekend writing intensives: two three-hour sessions where I could fully immerse myself in writing, gaining the structure of a classroom setting and the often hard to find audience to critique my writing.
Or maybe, I would change my schedule completely and sign up for one of their 10-week in-person sessions, convincing myself the hour and a half drive would be worth all the nuggets I would glean from class.
In the end, I did neither. After learning they offered the same 10-week courses online, I decided to spare myself the drive and start this way. Little did I know that when I started the class, online would become the only format for schools across the country.
In an attempt to remind myself of all the things I learned during my undergrad years, I took their Fiction Writing 101 course. If you enjoy writing and are looking for a way to plunge further into your writing, I’d highly suggest checking their different classes out.
2. Asbury Park
We went to Asbury Park with Jon a few weeks ago. It was one of their final weekdays where no beach badges were required. Hope had me thinking we might have the beach to ourselves. Reality had me facing this:
Despite the crowded beach, we maintained our distance from people and ended up having a lovely day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the water was visibly clearer*.
*I know the cynics will think I’m making it up, but when I can see my toes in Jersey water, I know something has changed.
3. Eating Out
Leave it to my Gram to be the one to get me to go out to eat first. In March, on the week everything started closing down, Gram and I had a shopping day planned. We went to the mall and discovered a ghost town. Two anchor stores were open, but most other stores stood dark and empty with a sign posted of their closure.

With some places beginning to reopen, Gram immediately scheduled a redo. Despite the temperature reaching 90 degrees, there was a slight breeze in the air which made our outdoor lunch refreshing.
4. Weather
Has anyone else been experiencing some dishonesty from their weather app? Last week, on the most sweltering of days, my weather app promised me cooler weather. Cooler by like, ten degrees. I’m starting to wonder if the meteorologists have decided to let their weather predictions be as unreliable as the year 2020 as been.
