Anyone else making a mental checklist of all the things you want to do when quarantine is over?
All the places you took for granted?
All the places you said you would go ‘one day’? Even the ones that are so close by it seems silly you haven’t been to them yet?
Add this to that list: Murder Mystery Dinner Show
One week before the Stay-at-Home order went into action, this very thing was our last hurrah. We went with my SIL, Sam, and her boyfriend, Kurt. When Sam and I scheduled the date, we had no clue in the days leading up to it we would be texting back and forth, “So…do you think it’s still on?” and “Have they canceled it yet?” or “Are you still okay with going?”
It was and we did.
For the few hours we were there, somehow the looming terror approaching unseen all around us was forgotten.
I’d say that’s a job well done.
I’m a little bias, because any day out with my SIL, Sam, is a good one. We somehow always reach a point in the night where side-splitting, tears streaming, laughter dominates the conversation. And this night was no different.
We were at a table with two other couples and one of the actors who tried her best, when we started grilling her, to convince us she was not an actor, but attending the show for business.
The evening began with salad and the murder taking place. Two detectives entered the room and the show began. Their acting was well developed, especially considering they had many moments where they needed to improvise and play off the room.
This picture makes my heart happy…you don’t know how many I had to take to get it
Our dinner options were a choice of salmon, chicken, or roasted cauliflower steak. Right before the murderer was revealed we were served some very nice cheesecake.
Perhaps because this was a social event for me, I didn’t have my sleuth hat on so tightly, or maybe it was the cheesecake I was still licking off my fork, but I was way off in guessing whodunit. Sam had it figured out, but only one prize could be awarded and it was given to whoever guessed the murderer and wrote out the best explanation.
I knew the girl sitting at our table would win* because she pulled out a sharpie and wrote a full-page answer to Whodunit and What Evidence Can You Provide.
*At least there’s one mystery I can solve.
All around it was a great time out of the house, and I’m not just saying that because I’ve been confined to mine for a month now. I especially think it is more fun if you go with another couple to share in the mystery and the humor of it all*.
*And it is especially fun if your SIL has to go up and do a dance because she had a birthday recently.
