1. The Javits Center
Last week I learned that over the course of a week, the Javits Center has been turned into a makeshift hospital with around 1,000 beds.
This kind of thing was expected, but I had to read the article half a dozen times until it finally sunk in that yes, indeed, this place where only a few years ago I casually walked around sneaking pictures of people in their artistic cosplay is now a place of intentionally planned movements of medical professionals and those in need of their aide.
2. Board Games
With the above said, does anyone else feel like they are playing a board game without the directions? To win, you need to wear gloves, but only if your pawn is positioned away from the grocery store, and it must be between the hours of 9 and 6, and only after you have assembled your mask properly.
What I’m saying is, someone, for the love of God, send us the directions*!
*What I’m also saying is, I’m going to beat Hubby’s butt at Scrabble later.
3. Whipped Coffee
You know I like to hop on a good foodie bandwagon whenever I have the opportunity, and the ‘rona has provided that opportunity.
While I’m no tik tok-er*, this do-it-yourself fancy drink is insanely easy and incredibly delicious.
*You’d especially know this if you saw that my first spelling of this was ‘tik tocker’.
I saw it a while back and thought, I don’t need to try that. But the more I kept seeing regular, everyday people making this drink for themselves, the more I thought, Hmmm, maybe I need to try this, at least for research’s sake. Then my friend, Kristine, who I am pretty certain loves new local coffee joints more than I do, asked if I had tried it, and I knew it was time.
The recipe I used calls for instant coffee, but I only had instant espresso, so I most certainly over-caffeinated myself that day, but listen, because this is important: This coffee is insanity. It has a coffeehouse quality and might permanently replace my need to purchase an iced latte at a coffee shop ever again*.
*Okay, this is totally not true, because there are dozens upon dozens of places I have yet to visit and need to as soon as quarantine is lifted**.
**Alright, maybe not ‘as soon as’, because I’m going to be one of those people a little wary of going back into the world immediately, but soon.
The recipe can be kind of vague making your first attempt a bit of a shot in the dark. So, here is what I did:
- Put 2 T sugar, 2 T instant coffee (espresso for me), 2 T hot water in a mixing bowl. Mix with hand blender with the whisk attachment for 3-4 minutes until the mixture peaks like whipped cream.
- Fill 12 oz glass with ice then fill it about 2/3 of the way with milk.
- Top with whipped coffee.
Don’t be like me and make a mess.
4. Take a picture. Mix with straw
Apparently, this can be made hot as well. I’m interested to try it with some steamed milk.
4. Spring
It is Spring. While it doesn’t feel like it, for more reasons than this back and forth weather we continue to have, the calendar, yes that calendar which none of us can really mentally process right now, doesn’t lie.
If you need some beautiful images to distract you from the not so spring-y feeling of life right now, look no further.
