A few years ago, during the fifth anniversary of my 25th birthday, Hubby and I discovered Colada Cuban Café.
It singlehandedly convinced me I need to move to Fort Lauderdale.
In fact, I love it so much, I have previously blogged about Colada, yet today feel the need to share it with you again.
Only a week after we returned from our Miami trip this March, we found ourselves unable to go the to bakeries or restaurants we love back at home thanks to COVID-19. So today I thought I would spend some time revisiting a place I can’t go to anyway because of its distance from my home*.
*But, if you find yourself lucky enough to be in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area, you miiiight just be able to take advantage of Colada’s take out options.
I’m sure you’re thinking, what’s the big deal? Why do I love this place so much?
Have you ever found something when you were in a moment of desperation and what you found was better than you ever could have imagined?
Yeah, that’s Colada for me.
It has become the place we immediately go whenever we find ourselves in Fort Lauderdale.
Because…
Legit Cuban sandwiches…
Crispy, flavorfilled empanadas…
Coffee and guava and cheese pastries…
(Full disclosure: the guava and cheese pastries are my serious weakness. Like, if you needed to get information out of me, all you would have to do is swing one of those over my head and I would talk. They are insane.)
And the best part? Colada opened a Café and Grill, aka restaurant, this year in Miami. We chanced upon it one night after we’d had an incredible meal at Novikov, an Asian fusion restaurant in Downtown Miami.
For some reason, I’d thought this Miami location of Colada’s was a quick, take-out kind of spot.
It was completely the opposite. So much, that if I hadn’t of been so full from sushi and Peking duck, I would have jumped right in for second dinner.
Instead, we had dessert: Chocolate Guava Lava Cake and Flan Cheesecake.
We cleaned our plates.

This year
If you are like me and love a one stop place providing good coffee, top notch pastries, and authentic dishes such as Cuban sandwiches, make sure you make time to visit a Colada location on your next visit to South Florida.
Which, never have I ever wished more, will hopefully be soon.
