I sometimes go through funks. Moments where I decide not to be my normal self. These moments then turn into chunks of time and then little by little I’m not my normal self at all, but a scary alternate version.
And, spoiler alert, I really don’t like her.
That being said, I’m sorry.
Today I realized I haven’t posted a true Coffeehouse Adventure since August 2017.
I can’t even use the excuse of not going on coffeehouse adventures since then, because I have. I definitely have.
Today I’ll try to repair that with a teeny little coffeeshop I found this fall on Nassau Street in Princeton.
“I think there’s a new coffee place coming,” I said to Hubby as we drove into Princeton one Saturday. “It’s called, Saaaa, saaa, Sa-creed. Sa-creed coffee. Oh, Sayyyy-crid. Like sacred. It’s Sakrid Coffee. Wait, you have to look at the sign. Then you’ll understand.”
No matter my temporary inability to pronounce it, with such a name, it’s in the perfect location. Sakrid Coffee is on the corner of Nassau and Chambers Street next to the beautifully antiquated structure of the Nassau Christian Center church, which makes sitting at the bar of the floor to ceiling window directed at the church the best seat in the house, for me at least*.
*What can I say? I’m a sucker for stained glass.
“A modern twist on the tried and true Italian espresso bar” is how Sakrid Coffee identifies itself on its website.
While I don’t know if America coffeeshops will ever be able to mirror the classic bar experience found throughout Italy*, the espresso Sakrid is serving up is top notch, the good stuff, dare I say, equal to the level of quality found in their role model?
*I mean…standing while drinking a coffee AND not having the option to take it to go? I don’t think we can handle it!
I tried a cappuccino on my first visit and it met all my basic cappuccino requirements: petite in size, strong in flavor. But I immediately envied Hubby’s choice of a peppermint latte.
It was a seasonal flavor which I noticed upon stepping up to order, but thought, “A peppermint latte, without mocha? What is this madness?”
I’ll tell you what that madness was, it was the reason we have sayings like ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’. It was refreshing. I don’t think I’ve ever described a hot coffee in such a way, but that is what it was. A warm minty bold burst of awesome.
We went back a few months later and though the seasonal signage for the peppermint latte was no longer on display, I was able to get my very own.
And it was as refreshingly delicious as the first had been.
